Barbara Medvec is Senior Vice President at Oakwood
Healthcare, Inc., and Chief Nursing Officer, Oakwood
Healthcare System. Oakwood is a comprehensive regional
network operating four hospitals and multiple healthcare
post-acute and outpatient sites that serve more than one
million people in 35 southeastern Michigan communities.
In addition, she also serves as Chief Nursing Officer for
Oakwood’s tertiary medical center, Oakwood Hospital &
Medical Center in Dearborn.
Prior to joining Oakwood, Medvec served as Chief
Operating Officer and Administrator of Patient Care
Services for Promedica Health System in Ohio, building on
her leadership experience in the Oncology and Internal
Medicine Departments with the University of Michigan
Hospitals in Ann Arbor. She began her nursing career as
an oncology staff nurse at the University of Michigan
Hospitals.
In addition to serving as a member of the Oakwood Board
of Directors, Medvec serves on the University of Michigan
Alumni Board and serves on many college Boards of
Visitors. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International
Honor Society of Nursing (Rho chapter); the Michigan
Center for Nursing Advisory Board; and the Michigan and
American Organization of Nurse Executives.
Medvec earned her Masters of Science in Nursing and
Business Administration from Madonna University in
Livonia, Michigan, and her Bachelors of Nursing from the
University of Michigan.
